Himeji Castle - Himeji, Japan (March 2003)

In March of 2003 I took a short trip to Southern Japan, visiting the islands of Honshu & Shikoku. The following pictures are a visual journal of that trip. Enjoy (~_^)

Another view of the square. Harakiri is a formal way for a Samurai to die for his Lordship honorable by commiting suicide 'seppuku'. They would use the short bladed knife known as 'Tonto' to impale themselves upon into their stomachs, and cut across. Then someone else standing off to the side using a sharp 'Katana', would chop off their heads to finish the ceremony. This it was deemed by the Shogun and Samurai was an honorable way to die when not in battle.
