This is how the I/O Compos are set up and ran. Here is a list of FAQs you might have about the compos.
Compo is short for Competition. It is where many groups and individual artist get together and submits works of they have made. A compo can be anything, from Poetry to Short Stories, to dazzling lights and SVGA graphics displayed in a Virtual world like setting. Music compos are where musicians download a pre-defined sample pack of sounds, and use that to write music. With everyone using the same sounds it becomes pretty challening. After the compo deadline date, all the people's work who enter, is displayed. Here on the Internet they are represented as Packs downloadable from this web site. Each Compo area having its own pack. Also there maybe a huge Compo Page which has all the entries, but theses will usually be too big for most to download. Also FTP and BBS sites distribute the packs as well. After everyone has listened to the tunes, seen the graphics, or read the stories and view the compos. They submit a voting forming included in each pack giving the artist's work a point level of 0-10. O being the lowest, 10 the highest. Soon after all the voting forms are in the next Compo will start, and soon after that, the voting results will be posted. There after the compos start again. For the I/O Compos thats 4 times a year, since its a quartly held event.
To enter a compo is very easy! You just click on the Compo web site you wish to enter. Read the rules for that Compo area as they may have changed. If there is a Compo Entry Pack for download on that page download it as well to enter. After you're finished making your entry just submit it to: lordjr@hi-net.or.jp
Yes, for each seperate Compo there is a seperate and are speical RULES for that compo. Though there are a few general judging Compo rules which are: - Anyone can judge the compo. - You may _NEVER_ vote for yourself. - You have to judge the Compo(s) you enter, otherwise your entry will be disqualified Otherwise just click on the Web page for that compo area and there you will find the Rules for that particular Compo(s). Also for those wanted to get a head start on a Compo before the start date, be warned that some Compos will have speical rules and guideline which if you don't follow will get your work disqualified. So wait till the actuall start date, check the page to see if the rules have change, and begin your work then.
Well the Compos are set up to take place 4 times a year, giving you 3 months to start your work, complete, vote and be voted on, and get the results of all the Compo(s). For example: The 1st I/O Compo ever started Feb. 1, after that day the sample packs and special rules if any where posted at the Web site. Anyone wishing to enter just read the rules or download the entry packs for that Compo. Thereafter around mid-April they had to turn their works in to be voted on. The next day or so a Voting package came out and was available for download at BBS, FTP, and WWW sites around the world. Everyone who entered had to vote to keep from being disqualified. After that the results were posted after the 2nd Compo for that year had started.
To enter a compo all you need do is Email your entry to: lordjr@hi-net.or.jp. Later on if this addie becomes too overwelmed with entries (as I hope it does) the address and rules for this may change. Also if your entering the compo from one of our BBS sites you can just upload your entry there, and the Sysop of that board should forward your entries to us here at Information Overide.
After the deadline date for all submission to be turned in, a Compo Voting Pack for all the compos will come out. I/O will post theses on the seperate Comopo area pages at this Web Site. Also they will available at our FTP and BBS sites as well. If the total amount of entries is low say 20megs or so. A huge All Compo Pack will be available for download. After you've finished filling out the TXT file included in the pack. You turn it in to Lord Jon Ray at: lordjr@hi-net.or.jp
YES!!! Please do. If you don't think your stuff is that good, of enough to enter a compo like this. But you feel very intrested or curious in the demoscene please add your voice to what you think of the entries entered. Everyone reguardless of where you live or your age will be counted. Also please don't cheat by submitting your votes via other email you may have. Me and the rest of the crew here at I/O will be looking for those. If caught, you'll be ban from this compo, and a blacklist of all your gathered emails and handle will be handed to most the other Compo holder in the scene. It doesn't pay to cheat!
Well here in Japan the demoscene is very small if even non-existance. There is only 1 other group here that is well known GWP. Besides that there IS NO demoscene here, thus how the hell can you have a real life Demo Party like you lucky guys over there in the States and all over Europe can? So to kinda make an International forum and competition, we here at Information Overide decided to create the 1st ever Demo Party in Cyberspace, and instead of making a once a year type thing, we decided to keep a stead flow of releashes into the demoscene to keep the vibes flowing. Thus we made it into a NON-STOP Demo Party!!!!! P-) Rave On!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) No everyone no matter where you or your group is can enter a demoscene compo on an 1st ever Real International scene level. We also hope this new trend catches on in more areas like the U.S. and Europe.
Well I guess that person would real be me, Lord Jon Ray. As of right now I run almost the enter Compos myself. But later on as the compos grow more popular I will have other members of I/O tending to the other areas of the compo I don't have time for anymore for lack of time. I hope you all out there can see what I'm doing. And don't think this lamer is here because he can't make demos himself, so he just creates a compo to judge other who can, that the wrong message and a negative one. If you feel that way and don't respect all the hard work I've done here, then heres some GFA - Great Free Advice, Get the hell out of the demoscene for we don't need negative people like you ruining it for the rest of us, no matter how elite your stuff is. With that said and out of the way, I hope to see lots and lots of responses to what I'm trying to accomplish here on an International level. And good luck in the Compo(s)!!!! P-) Rave On!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
